About Sam

I am the founder and sole luthier at Bad Water Guitars. Guitar building and repair has been my passion, and my work for over 15 years. In 2000 I took and apprenticeship in fretted instrument and orchestra instrument repair and restoration under Scott Robertson and Timothy Johnson of Midland, MI. After attending the Galloup School of Luthiery in Big Rapids, MI, I worked as a Luthier for Robertson Guitars of Midland, MI, and as a Full time acoustic Luthier for McPherson Guitars in Sparta, WI.

In 2009, I left McPherson, and to focus on my private business, and founded Bad Water Guitars. Bad Water Guitars is located in the beautiful upper peninsula of Michigan, in the small town of Iron Mountain. It has been my dream and pleasure to serve the musicians of the greater U.P. area, and from around the nation. In an effort to keep service focused, and personal, I work by appointment. This allows me to offer fast turnaround, flexible hours consistently top-notch work. Please contact me today to make an appointment!

What I do

I repair and restore all fretted stringed instruments, including acoustic guitars, electric guitars, banjos, mandolins, violins, violas, double bass, cellos.

I sell and install a large variety of pick-up systems for your instruments.
